WKF finalist in Peace and Sport Awards

The World Karate Federation finished among the top three organisations in the category of “Institution of the Year” at the Peace and Sport Awards.

Presented in a gala celebrated Wednesday in Monaco, the Peace and Sport Awards recognise the most relevant initiatives of the year in sports and social issues.

The WKF was represented at the gala by the WKF CEO Sara Wolff. “We feel privileged to have received this nomination when we have just started the journey of our Guardian Girls Global Karate project. It gives us the motivation to continue working on this project and further develop the programme to empower women even more,” she said.

Karate’s international governing body was nominated for the first time ever for the “Guardian Girls Global Karate programme”, a worldwide social project that aims to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment to defend themselves from all forms of Gender-Based Violence through Karate training.

The WKF competed for the “Institution of the Year” award against the Birmingham City Council and the National Olympic Committee of Denmark.

WKF President Antonio Espinós said:

“It is a tremendous honour for us to be nominated for the Peace and Sport Awards. It represents the confirmation that our efforts to implement initiatives to promote a better world through the social contribution of Karate are going in the right direction.

“On behalf of the Karate family, I would like to congratulate the winner, the Birmingham City Council. The nomination to the Guardian Girls Global Karate project which we have launched together with the Koyamada International Foundation and the United Nations Population Fund is the incentive we need to continue with our objectives and potentially present our project again in future editions of the awards.
